What is CPBF?

Charles Pyne Badminton Foundation (CPBF) is an aspiring not-for-profit organization that is aiming to promote the sport of badminton by providing accessible and sustainable badminton programs in Jamaica and Canada.  Our programs will allow and encourage aspiring players and coaches the opportunities to develop their skills as well as provide a fun, alternative for youth to expand their energy.  As an organization, CPBF looks forward to working with individuals or organizations that share similar goals and values as us.

Why Start CPBF?

Although Charles was unsuccessful at qualifying for the 2012 Olympic Games, there was an insight gained.  One of the factors that influences an athlete’s chance at qualifying for the Olympics relies on the amount of resources the athlete can access.  Considering the financial burden on athletes, the availability of facilities, qualified coaches and sparring partners, Jamaica currently has limited badminton training programs that will allow athletes to develop their skills and compete internationally on an on-going basis.  Charles and his partner, Angie Lau, discussed what can be done to help promote and develop the badminton programs in both Jamaica and parts of Canada where coaching is not easily accessible.  Charles, having always wanted to give back to Jamaica, the country that introduced him to the sport which in turn exposed him to opportunities he would not have had otherwise, and Canada, his birthplace and where he now calls home, would love to see sustainable and accessible programs for all players regardless of geographic locations or socio-economic status. Charles and Angie, together with their friend Chris Zacca (Canada), Gregory Wong (Jamaica) and his long-time coach and friend from Jamaica, Dr. Kingsley Ford, decided to start up the Charles Pyne Badminton Foundation.
