"My overall experience with the CPBF clinic and exhibition was amazing to say the least. It was my very first time learning new things outside regular training sessions. It was great to have new coaches come in so as to fine tune and add to that which we already know. After day 1 I felt as if we didn't do much as the session was not very physically demanding ( like most of the sessions that I'm accustomed to), however after I got home and thought about what was done and how it found it's way in my style of play in day2 ( of the clinic) I really saw the relevance of what was done and now know that BECAUSE YOU'RE NOT SWEATING LKE THERE'S NO TOMORROW DOESN'T MEAN THAT WORK ISN'T BEING DONE - As Charles said. Though it was a big group the CPBF coaches each rotated and dealt with each player. I will now try to smile when I make a mistake, remember to keep my racket up and always keep in mind that though power is good- angles are more lethal ( oh and minimize the swings) This experience was definitely one for the books and now during games and training I will be reminded of the CPBF "

"Post Training Clinics I have been more aware of my placement on the court as well as proper stroking technique which makes playing a bit more effortless thus enabling energy conservation. This has increased my speed and confidence on the court rather than just focusing on hitting the shuttle to the opposite side of the court."

"Based on my experience with the camp I would say it was very good. Although it wasn't very physically strenuous the technical aspects of it were quite useful. It was very informative and I learnt a great deal of things. It was also very fun as there were new ways of playing games to spice them up, that I have never done before. Too bad it was only three days because I would have loved to go back again. The only thing is I would have liked the hours to be longer but I know you are time stricken."

"I missed the training camp but i heard it was fun and it was a good experience. I enjoyed the exhibition match, it was new for me and i think it was new for most of the players." ~ Kareem Chin, Jamaica
"The training clinic held in Jamaica by the Charles Pyne Badminton Foundation (CPBF) was awesome! It was productive as much as it was fun. Pyne and his team (Angie, Chris and others) were able to reap good results by pushing the participants in a short period of time without bullying them. They only bullied me...just kidding :P
Having a constant voice of your coach in your head when you're playing means you're constantly conscious of correcting your faults. When I'm on the court I keep hearing Charles' or Chris' voice saying, "too much back-swing" or "smaller strokes" or "that's not a drop" lol. It means they've engaged and they've imparted. All in all that's very good coaching. May be surprising but with just a couple training sessions I believe my game has improved. Also, the prizes from the sponsors were a nice touch as well. Thanks guys, keep up the good work and come back soon! The training clinic was followed by an exhibition of Jamaica's top badminton players. This was also awesome but it was the gripping encounter between Charles and Gareth that was the highlight. It was clear Gareth decided to "clip" Charles this time around. However, Charles' big smash and precise net play proved too much. Charles prevailed in the end; the gods were with him. Auspicious start for Charles and what will become a legacy of the foundation." ~ Gavin Seeriram (CPBF Training Clinic Trainee) |
